History of Dell

The company that now goes by the name of Dell was founded in 1976 by Michael Dell, a salesman at a Dallas computer company named DELL (Data Processing and Operating Systems). Michael bought his own half interest in the company in 1980. In 1982 the company was incorporated and then changed the name to simply Dell. This is where their logo, the “n” in Dell, was first seen. Michael’s younger brother, Craig, joined Dell shortly thereafter, and a third brother, Dave, became the company president in 1988. Dell grew rapidly through the 90s and in 1996, Dell partnered with IBM to launch the first brand of black-box server computers. In 2001 Dell went public on the NYSE and then expanded into a wide range of devices and services.
